What does it mean to “follow” Jesus?

As disciples of Jesus, we believe that Jesus has the best information on what it means to live a whole and abundant life: to love, laugh, celebrate, mourn, dream, have intimate and deep relationships, and to trust God the Father with his whole being. Even in suffering he led a radical and abundant life!

Jesus invites each of us now and empowers us, through the Holy Spirit, to be with him, to become like him in thought, deed and character—so that we might learn to live in his love and be useful as a gift to bless and care for God’s good world.

Through God’s generous love, we get to play a part in our growth in Christ because it won’t “just happen” without our effort. The Holy Spirit goes before us and sustains this work but will not shape us in areas we are unwilling to hand over.  So, as we grow confident in God’s vision for life, our first step is to trust him and commit to follow him with our everyday, normal lives.

God longs for our entire lives to be his— heart, soul, mind and strength. This is why we are committed to formation and why it’s so important to learn how each of us is being uniquely invited to grow in whatever season we find ourselves now.
